Sharing music & culture via videoconference
April 21, 2009 | | 2 Comments
Videoconferencing has allowed American students in New York and Turkish students in Istanbul to listen to music from each other’s countries simultaneously as part of a cultural-exchange program.
The event linked students from local schools, the famous Turkish clarinet artist Selim Sesler and the New York Gypsy All-Stars (all at Carnegie Hall) with Turkish students and the American jazz band the Maurice Brown Effect at Bosphorus University’s Garanti Culture Centre.
The Global Encounters program introduces high school students to musical styles from around the world, while helping teachers use the study of music to enrich student understanding of human concerns, historical perspectives, and fundamental social questions.

This was a very interesting read. Having a passion for music myself, I would love to have had the opportunity to meet students across the world to share my culture and music. Even though I have been instructing programs via videoconferencing for well over a year now, I still find it remarkable how it bridges gaps between schools and learning centers resulting in an amazing learning experience.
It would be great to hear more about what you are doing Anthony. You could tell us about it here in comments – or send me more information via the contact form & I can write a post on it.
