Simon Brown tagged me in a meme that’s doing the rounds of Plurk & Twitter.

Here are seven things about me that you may not know:

  1. I was born & raised on a dairy farm – see picture to prove it!
  2. I spent my first 3 years of school at a one teacher school in my farming district. There were 2 kids in my class. After that they closed the school & bussed us into a larger school in the nearby town.
  3. In 2000 I walked across England (coast-to-coast) with a friend – we only became lost a couple of times!
  4. In 2005 I learnt how to cycle & cycled around Sri Lanka to raise $5500 for the tsunami relief fund.
  5. My great great grandfather explored & opened land between Maroochydore & Gympie. Skyring Creek is named after he & his brother for doing so.
  6. I left the comfort of a secure teaching job in 1991 to start my own business. I’m still in that business and spend a lot of my time mentoring other women starting out in small business.
  7. My favourite colour is purple – not just because it’s one of the Suffragette colours.

Very cool, that you were raised on a dairy farm. I also think it is neat that you have explorers in your recent family tree.

I also grew up on a farm, was bused 1.5 hrs. to a school of 5,000, and cycled across Canada with a friend getting lost a few times… Perhaps I just now need to start my own business ;-)

Great to hear your story Carol.I relived parts of my childhood seeing you with the calf. Remember letting them suck your hand? I can still remember the texture of the tongue and the force it put on our hand as it was sucked in. I went to a tiny 13 student rural school in central Victoria and I was the only one in my class all through Primary School. It was quite a shock heading off to Boarding school in Bendigo for secondary school where there were 37 girls in the class.
Congratulations on making the break from teaching and thankyou for sharing your 7 things. You made my day.
    Best wishes for 2009

Carol, here is a copy/paste of my 7 Things. I forget that my blog wears a “cloak of invisibility” in Australia.

    1. I love mysteries. My first favorite books were Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys and Clue was my favorite board game.

    2. I am an avid doodler. I love Sharpies and blank pages of paper!

    3. My undergraduate degree is in English Literature and my masters’ degree is in Educational Technology.

    4. I have completed 3 full marathons and 8 half marathons since 2003. My first was the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and I raised $1500 for Team in Training.

    5. I adore 4 year olds’ enthusiasm and creativity. (We need more of this in our work!)

    6. When I began college, I wanted to be a trial lawyer.

    7. My favorite vacation is one near water (beach, lake, river, stream) with no Internet access and mornings with coffee on a porch/deck/patio/balcony.

    All the best,
    Roxanne
