3 Things I Believe About All Students
December 8, 2008 | Tagged AllStudentsMeme | 2 Comments
My Plurk buddy Martha Thornburgh tagged me in a meme which she began as part of a challenge posed to us by Steve Dembo in his 30 Days to Becoming a Better Blogger.
Martha asked us to:
- Share three things that you believe about all students.
- Reflect on your thoughts in your blog.
- Be sure to link to this post and to where you were first tagged.
- Tag your response with AllStudentsMeme
- Invite others to join the conversation by tagging them to be a part of the meme.
I’m taking some poetic licence with Martha’s meme & putting it in the context of videoconferencing – since that’s what this blog is about….
3 things I believe about all students (& videoconferencing):
- All students are naturally curious. At what point in their ‘education’ is this lost? Videoconferencing can rekindle this curiosity by giving them a range of rich and interesting experiences. Videoconferencing would be just one part of a learning program which would include all sorts of experiences from reading to experimenting.
- All students enjoy connecting with peers in other countries to compare cultures, environment, food, customs etc. This can be done at a level appropriate for the age group. Videoconferencing is an excellent tool for connecting students around the world. A great place for connecting with other teachers & classes to organise videoconference links is Collaborations Around the Planet (CAPspace).
- All students love an excursion – and they’ll love travelling around the country and/or world even more. Imagine connecting with NASA, zoos, science centres or going diving on the Australian reef! Two great places for organising virtual excursions are the Polycom Content Searchable Database and the CILC Content Provider database.
I’m passing this meme over to videoconference colleagues:

Great connections to video conferencing. I’ve always said that my ideal class would be a school bus or better yet, a jet. But video conferencing is a great way to use what we know and believe about all students to engage them in meaningful learning.
[...] Skyring has tagged me for a meme about what I believe about all students. Carol also morphed the meme to be related to videoconferencing and has really gotten me thinking. The meme specifically states “all students” and as I [...]
