Yesterday I was fortunate to see a presentation from Futurelab that overviewed some of the projects they are undertaking in the UK. One project takes videoconferencing as a learning tool to new heights. It’s run by the National Space Centre in the Leicester.

The Space Mission project puts pupils in the roles of experts in an Emergency Response Team after a disaster in space. Working in teams in the classroom, up to 30 pupils use videoconferencing facilities, web chat and interactive materials to help resolve the disaster. They must use and develop all their skills as scientists, mathematicians, planetary geographers and communicators.

Go to the website and watch the video to see a group of students really involved in their learning. Read about it in the Guardian. Check out the e-Mission programs also available by videoconference from the National Space Centre.
